How To Add Luxury To Your Kitchen Reno - For Less

Your Property Profits • January 9, 2026

If you're still wondering how important a fresh, modern kitchen is when selling your home, we've got some pretty staggering stats for you. According to a recent survey by Rocket Homes, 55% of Aussies said a "good kitchen could convince them to buy a home they otherwise wouldn't". And in terms of money, a new kitchen can generally increase your sale price by up to $20,000.

But creating an updated kitchen with a luxury-feel might not cost as much as you think, says Sophie Mclean, Director of Your Property Profits. Making your kitchen renovation 'wow' your buyers is all in the details, she adds. Here's how.

1. Built-in conveniences

Sure, we all love soft closing drawers and LED lighting, but all pretty standard these days, says Sophie. Instead, impress you buyers with thoughtful, functional additions. Things like built-in paper towel holders, pull-out chopping boards and hidden USB charging ports for phones, tablets, or small appliances. These details may seem small, but they signal a kitchen designed with lifestyle in mind.

2. Revitalise unused space

Another way to stand out with your kitchen renovation is to make use of all the available space. Most kitchens have around 15cm of unused space between the bottom of the cabinets and the floor. Installing toe-kick drawers in this area adds storage and sophistication. These shallow drawers are perfect for storing oven trays, chopping boards, or even cleaning tools like brooms. Plus, they make the space feel custom-designed and practical.

3. Be aware of the trends

Not every social media trend is worth copying, but some - like home organisation - are here to stay. One of the most searched-for kitchen upgrades? A dedicated spice drawer. But skip the old-school wall racks that gather dust, instead, install a shallow drawer with flat spice racks, ideally near your stove or prep area. It's functional, visually satisfying, and perfect for home cooks.

4. Upgrade the cooking experience

A luxury kitchen isn't just about good looks - it's about how it feels to cook in it. Adding a few comfort-focused upgrades can completely change how it feels to use. Sophie suggests a vertical utensil cupboard as a smart way to replace that messy drawer we all have. Use a narrow pull-out cupboard near the oven with a top shelf for oils, salt, and cooking essentials, and a bottom shelf with built-in containers for utensils. Or install two vertical pull-outs on either side of the oven - one for cooking tools, one for condiments. It's affordable, space-efficient, and feels high-end.
