What's Trending (And Adds Value) In Home Design In 2025

Your Property Profits • January 8, 2026

Design trends come and go, but the best ones don't just look good, they also add value. Whether you're renovating to sell or updating your forever home, staying on top of what buyer's love (and expect) can make a big difference to your result.

At Your Property Profits, we're all about strategic upgrades that increase your home's resale value (it's our specialty). Here's what's trending right now in the ACT and how to make it work for your renovation.

1. Natural tones and textures are back (and they sell)

Buyers are favouring earthy colours, warm neutrals, and natural materials like timber, stone, and brushed metals. These features add a sense of calm and quality that stands out in a property listing and in an open home.

We're seeing more requests for statement timber vanities, sandy-toned tiles, and oak-look floors. Not only do they look beautiful, but they also create consistency from room to room, which helps the home feel professionally finished (and more expensive).

2. Kitchens that are functional and flexible

The kitchen is still the heart of the home, but we're wanting more from them now. Open-plan spaces that connect the kitchen to the dining and living areas are still in high demand, but buyers are now looking for more function and less 'fuss'. Think integrated appliances, clutterfree storage, and a layout that works for entertaining or everyday family life.

We're designing more kitchen spaces with hidden butler's pantries or smart storage options, especially important in compact Canberra homes where space is often hard to come by.

3. Bathrooms with 'spa-like' appeal

A simple bathroom reno can make a big difference, especially when it feels more like a mini day spa than a basic washroom. Clean lines, soft lighting, large-format tiles, brushed brass tapware and built-in storage are all trending in 2025.

We're seeing buyers respond really well to walk-in showers, tiled niches, and underfloor heating (to beat that ACT winter).

4. Sustainable choices that don't scream 'eco'

More homeowners are asking about energy efficiency, and more buyers are expecting it. Double glazing, water-wise fittings, and well-insulated walls and roofs are now more than just selling points, they're often deal-makers.

The key is balancing function with form (and your budget!). Sustainability doesn't have to look 'green', we use design choices that fit the aesthetic while lowering bills and improving comfort.

5. Space-saving designs and flexible layouts

With more people working from home or managing busy family schedules, flexibility is in. We're carving out study nooks, multipurpose rooms, and adaptable living zones that suit the buyer's changing needs. These features add practical appeal without needing extra square footage (now, that's a bonus!).

Renovating for profit isn't just about following trends, it's about understanding what actually adds value. At Your Property Profits, we combine timeless design with up-to-date insight into what buyers want in the ACT right now. The result? Homes that are functional, beautiful, and ready to sell for more.

The Block isn't a renovating show. It's actually all about renovating for sale. Each set of contestants needs to produce a beautiful home that someone will eventually want to buy and live in. That's why it's one of our favourite shows because it's right up our alley!
